Well, not the man himself, but a rare chance to see some of Jan Švankmajer’s shorts in 35mm, preceded by a talk from yours truly about the use of movement in his films. It’s part of the concurrent Moves09 festival, which this year is exploring the narrative possibilities of movement on screen.

I’m still finalising the details, so I can’t give much info about the content, but I can certainly confirm that it will be heavily illustrated, even though original plans to include snippets from all 31 of his films proved a tad over-ambitious.

It’s at the Cornerhouse Manchester at 17:25, with the films at 18:15. I don’t know about the screening order, so here they are chronologically: The Last Trick (Poslední trik pana Schwarcewalldea a pana Edgara, 1964), The Flat (Byt, 1968), The Ossuary (Kostnice, 1970 – I’m fairly sure this will be the Zdeněk Liška version), Leonardo’s Diary (Leonardův deník, 1972), Dimensions of Dialogue (Možnosti dialogu, 1982) and The Death of Stalinism in Bohemia (Konec stalinismu v Čechách, 1990).
